Overweight Pets
There are many overweight and obese Americans. Even, pets are also putting on the pounds.
According to Dr. Rebecca Remillard, of the MSPCA-Angell Animal Hospital, "A third of the pet population, dogs and cats combined are overweight, and about 10 percent of that population is considered to be obese,"
High calorie pet food and providing too much food are the main factors why our pets are gaining so much weight. The extra pounds can be life threatening. In dogs, it cause them to live two years less, have health issues with their knees, hip and breathing difficulties. And in cats, they are vunerable to diabetes.
Feed them 2 to 3 times of small-portion meals throughout the day. Stay away from pet food which contains preservatives and artificial flavors.
By measuring the amount of food your pet gets based on their size, you can keep them healthy and happy.
Okay, maybe they aren't too happy since we limit their food in-take, but we have to remind ourselves that our pets are at risk if they are obese. Just have to ignore those puppy eyes and begging stunts they do for us. Replace it with loving praises.
